Fly

  • Hook tactical jig hook (Orvis Tactical Barbless Jig), 12-16
  • Thread wood-duck/yellow or light brown 6/0 6/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Black slotted tungsten, 1/8 in (1)
  • Weight .015 lead-free wire (several turns)
  • Tails Barred pumpkin nymph Sili Legs (2 (split))
  • Rib Gold Ultra Wire (BR) (6 in)
  • Body Golden-yellow pheasant tail fibers (6-8 fibers)
  • Collar Golden-stone Australian possum dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook, add several turns of lead wire behind it, and shove the wraps up into the bead's slot to lock it and add weight.
  2. Start thread and tie in two barred pumpkin Sili Legs at the bend, split into a V as the tails/cerci.
  3. Tie in the gold wire and a bundle of golden-yellow pheasant tail fibers.
  4. Wrap the pheasant tail forward to just behind the bead to form the segmented body.
  5. Counter-wrap the gold wire forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns to rib and reinforce the fragile body, then tie off.
  6. Dub a shaggy golden-stone possum collar right behind the bead to suggest legs and a thorax.
  7. Whip finish and add a drop of head cement (Sally Hansen Hard-As-Nails).
