Classic Recipe

  • Hook Waddington/streamer shank with wire stinger loop, 35mm shank + trailing stinger hook
  • Thread black or purple gel-spun/6-0 6/0 or gel-spun

Materials

  • Shank 35mm Waddington shank (1)
  • Stinger Wire or 25 lb mono loop to a short-shank hook (1)
  • Hot spot Chartreuse ice dub (pinch)
  • Rib Oval silver tinsel (6 in)
  • Body UV purple ice dub (pinch)
  • Body hackle Long cock/saddle hackle (1 feather)
  • Collar Ostrich herl (several fibers)
  • Flash Holographic Flashabou (purple/blue/red) (few strands)
  • Front hackle Guinea fowl (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Attach a wire or heavy-mono stinger loop to the rear of the shank and lock it with thread and super glue.
  2. Dub a small ball of chartreuse Ice Dub at the rear as a hot-spot butt.
  3. Tie in oval silver tinsel and a long cock hackle by the tip, then dub a UV purple Ice Dub body forward.
  4. Palmer the hackle forward through the body, then counter-wrap the silver tinsel through it to protect the stem.
  5. Build a collar of ostrich herl fibers around the shank, then add a few strands of holographic Flashabou (keep it sparse. Only 3 strands per side swim best).
  6. Tie in a well-marked guinea feather by the tip and wrap it as a soft front hackle for the shoulders.
  7. Build a neat head, whip finish, and cement.
