How to tie it
Build the wing before anything else. Trim the hide flush with the fur on both a black and an orange rabbit strip and thin the hide down, then cut a small section of fur away at the front of the orange piece, apply 5-minute epoxy to that bare hide, overlap it under the black strip and clamp it with hackle pliers until cured. Once set, taper the whole strip from the bottom up with all the fur held to one side.
Start Nano Silk 6/0 black at the return eye, wrap a base along the straight portion to the point, whip finish and set it aside. It will come back at the end for the Matuka tie-down.
Start Nano Silk 12/0 over the same area, then spin blue Ice Dub in a split thread, brush it out and wrap the rear body with hackle pliers, sweeping the fibres back with your fingers.
Wrap a folded black-dyed mallard flank collar in front of the dubbing, then fold three strands of crinkle flash over the thread on each of three sides. Add a folded heron hackle in front and a split-thread collar of fluorescent red Ice Dub.
Lay the spliced rabbit strip on top, measure it, trim the excess and tie it in by the tip. Brush all the body fibres forward and pin them with lead wire, then pull the strip back firmly over the body, part the fur, and lash the hide down with the black thread you left at the back, about a dozen wraps. Cement it and release the lead wire.
Switch to Nano Silk 18/0 and build the front in split-thread collars: orange Finn raccoon first, then about twice as much black Finn raccoon in front of it, brushing each out thoroughly before wrapping.
Add a folded pink teal collar in front, jungle cock on each side, and two cree saddle hackles with tips even with the end of the black rabbit strip. Cover the head in red thread, cement, and epoxy the head once dry.
