Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard saltwater hook, 1/0
  • Thread Clear/white mono (fine)

Materials

  • Tail White uni stretch (synthetic hair + pearl flash)
  • Body White/gray material (synthetic dubbing brush, carrot profile)
  • Eyes Clear head cement (2 large EP crustacean eyes)
  • Back Gray/olive top (synthetic topping)
  • Head Clear head cement (thin UV resin)

How to tie it

  1. Mount a saltwater hook and start monofilament thread.
  2. Tie in a sparse white synthetic tail with a few strands of pearl flash, about one shank length past the bend.
  3. Spin a dubbing brush of white and gray synthetic fibre and palmer it up the shank, sweeping back each wrap to build a full, carrot-shaped body.
  4. Set two large EP crustacean eyes parallel at the head to spread the profile wide. This gives the mullet its broad head.
  5. Add a gray or olive topping and a lateral flash line down each side.
  6. Brush the body out, then trim to a tapered mullet silhouette. Broad head tapering to the tail.
  7. Whip finish and coat the head with a thin UV resin to lock the eyes.
