Reference Recipe
- Hook 2XL-3XL nymph hook, 8
- Thread Black 70 denier
Materials
- Bead Black/copper bead (tungsten, sized to hook)
- Weight Lead (few wraps behind bead)
- Tail Brown permanent marker (2 goose biots, split)
- Butt Red buzzer wrap (thread or dubbing hotspot)
- Body Brown/black material (shaggy dubbing)
- Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
- Legs Barred rubber legs (rubber legs, 2 pairs)
- Thorax Brown/black material (shaggy dubbing)
How to tie it
- Slide a tungsten bead onto a 3XL nymph hook and add a few wraps of lead behind it for a fast sink.
- Start thread at the bend and tie in two brown goose-biot tails, splayed short.
- Build a bright red butt of thread or dubbing at the very rear as a hotspot. This is what draws the eye.
- Tie in fine wire, then dub a shaggy brown-black body forward to the 60% mark.
- Counter-rib the wire forward in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
- Figure-8 two pairs of barred rubber legs at the thorax, splayed fore and aft.
- Dub a fat, buggy thorax around the legs up to the bead, whip finish, and pick it out shaggy.
