Classic Recipe

Materials

  • Tail GP tippet (small)
  • Body Fiery brown seal or sub (dubbed)
  • Rib Gold oval (fine)
  • Wing Bronze mallard (rolled)
  • Hackle Fiery brown hen (sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the wet hook and run brown thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small golden pheasant tippet tail, then catch in fine gold oval rib.
  3. Dub a slim rope of fiery brown seal fur and wrap a tapered body forward to just short of the eye and tie off.
  4. Spiral the gold rib forward in 4-5 even turns and secure.
  5. Tie in a sparse fiery brown hen hackle and take 1-2 turns, folding the fibers back.
  6. Roll a slip of bronze mallard and set it low over the body as a wing to the bend.
  7. Build a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
