Tyer Recipe

  • Hook nymph / 2XL, 8-14
  • Thread black 8/0

Materials

  • tail Brown hackle fibers (few)
  • shellback Peacock herl (3-4 strands)
  • body floss Yellow floss (plump)
  • rib Fine gold wire (1)
  • hackle Brown/furnace hackle (1)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread behind the eye, run to the bend, and tie in a few brown hackle fibers for a short tail.
  2. Tie in three or four peacock herls for the shellback and fine gold wire at the bend.
  3. Tie in yellow floss and wrap a plump body forward to one-third behind the eye.
  4. Pull the peacock herl forward over the top as a shellback and secure behind the eye.
  5. Counter-rib with the gold wire through the body and over the shellback in open turns; tie off.
  6. Tie in and wrap a brown/furnace hackle as a front collar, tie off and trim.
  7. Whip finish.
