How to tie it
Start the yellow body thread at the eye and run it back to the bend, then build a fine tapered abdomen with touching turns forward to the 60% mark. On a fly this simple the thread body's taper is the only shape you get.
Attach the olive tying thread at the front of the abdomen and rib back and then forward in open turns over the yellow. One thread does both the ribbing and the rest of the tying, which keeps the fly light enough to float.
Tie a long natural brown CDC feather in at the 65% mark by the butt with the tips forward.
Fold the CDC back over itself and secure behind the thorax position to form a loop wing, leaving a clear bubble of CDC standing proud. That loop traps air and is what holds this emerger up in currents that would drown a simpler pattern.
Dub the thorax in front of the wing with CDC barbs spun on the thread, or squirrel guard fur, filling to the eye and whip finishing small.
Leave any loose CDC barbs that escaped while tying. They read as legs and improve the imitation. Use high quality CDC: on this pattern the feather does all the floating.
