How to tie it
Lay a thread base and tie a strip of 2mm foam along the shank to form the buoyant abdomen, segmenting it with a few thread wraps.
Tie in a sparse underwing of Krystal Flash and deer hair or Web Wing over the body, extending to about the bend.
Take the single pre-cut foam piece that forms the thorax, wing, and legs, and tie it down at the thorax so it lies back over the body. One piece keeps the profile clean and realistic from every angle.
Fold or pull the foam to shape the humped thorax and secure it, leaving the leg tabs splayed to the sides.
Add a bright foam indicator tab on top of the thorax so you can track the low-floating fly.
Whip finish under the thorax and trim the legs to about one shank length.
