Classic Recipe
Hook Steelhead/salmon iron, 4-8
Thread Black or red 6/0
Materials
Body Oval or flat silver tinsel (1)
Hackle Red saddle or hen (1)
Wing Fluorescent orange bucktail or calf tail (sparse clump)
How to tie it
Lay a smooth thread base and wrap silver tinsel from above the barb to two eye-widths behind the eye in touching, non-overlapping turns. Just three materials, so a clean body matters.
Take 2-3 turns of red hackle as a collar and sweep the fibers back and slightly down.
Tie in a sparse fluorescent orange wing on top, extending to the bend.
