How to tie it
Straighten any offset in the hook so it swims true, mount it, and lay thread the full length of the shank.
Tie the large silver bead chain eyes in on top just behind the eye with criss-cross wraps, then take wraps underneath and around the base to cinch them tight.
At the bend, wrap a small ball of white chenille. That ball is what splays the tail out and gives the fly movement, instead of the tail lying flat like the shop-bought original.
Tie in about three strands of black crystal flash doubled over so they stand out like antennae, then add a few strands of gold holographic tinsel over the top. Take a wrap or two to hold them back. Untidy is fine, that is how they look in the water.
Marry a grizzly and a cree hackle tip with the dull sides facing each other so they read as one feather, and tie the pair in on the near side of the chenille ball. Repeat with a second grizzly/cree pair on the far side. They will want to splay outward. That is what you want.
Touch a drop of thin UV resin into the hackle butts where they meet the shank and cure it. They are only held by the stems, and this is what stops them snapping off when the fishing is good.
Make the body brush: lay a length of red wire, wax it, cut white cross-cut rabbit off the hide close to the skin, lay only the butt ends across the wire and spin it up until the wire shortens and the brush feels tight.
Wrap the rabbit brush forward by hand, stroking the fibres rearward with each turn so the body stays slim but full and every hair lies back. Tie the wire off behind the eyes and trim, then figure-eight a few more turns around the bead chain. Burn off any stray hairs poking forward with a torch, keeping well clear of the thread.
Flatten one end of a length of 20 lb hard mono with flat pliers, tie it in on the near side at 45 degrees, bring the top down to form the loop under the hook point, and take wraps behind to lock it.
Whip finish and coat the head with Solarez Thin Hard UV resin.
