Reference Recipe

  • Hook Czech/scud nymph hook (Fulling Mill), 14-16
  • Thread Red (rear) then black UTC 70

Materials

  • Tungsten bead White bead (2.5 mm)
  • Wire rib (Sybai) Bright silver wire (1 strand)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the white tungsten bead onto the hook and start the UTC 70 red thread, unwinding it to lay flat; wrap down the bend and back, keeping the body flat.
  2. Tie in the bright silver wire at the bend with neat covering wraps, then cut the red thread (or transition) and switch to black thread.
  3. Wrap the black thread flat with touching turns to about halfway, then open the wraps to leave the red rear section exposed; build back up with a slight taper.
  4. Wrap the silver wire forward about six or seven turns, tie off in front, and helicopter to break it; whip finish.
  5. Coat the body with a thin layer of UV resin and cure.
