FAB Blob

Streamer · Largemouth Bass · Smallmouth Bass · Panfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet-fly / stillwater hook, 10
  • Thread Hot Pink 140 denier

Materials

  • Tail Hot pink uni stretch (5mm foam cylinder stub)
  • Underbody Opal material (medium mirage mylar)
  • Body Biscuit (FNF jelly fritz)

How to tie it

  1. Mount a #10 wet-fly hook and run thread to the bend.
  2. Cut a short foam cylinder, make a shank-length lengthwise slit in one end, and bind it in at the bend as a stub tail. The foam is what separates a FAB from a plain blob and keeps it riding up.
  3. Tie in a length of opal mirage mylar and wind it forward in touching turns to a smooth underbody, tying off at the 80% mark.
  4. Soak a length of jelly fritz, strip the fibres from one end, and bind that stripped core in at the tail.
  5. Wind the fritz forward in tight touching turns, sweeping the fibres back after each wrap so none get trapped, and stop a hook-eye's width short.
  6. Tie off, build a small neat head, and whip finish.
  7. Pick out any trapped fibres with a dubbing needle for a full, buggy blob.
