Slide the bead onto a standard nymph hook (Matt ties a size 14 with a 2.4mm tungsten bead), mount it, and wind seven or eight turns of 0.015" weight behind the bead. Jam the wraps up into the bead and break off the tag.
Start thread behind the weight, build a small dam, take a few wraps up over the weight, and run the thread back to the bend.
Bind in a sparse bunch of brown Antron as a tail, about one hook gap long, roughly where the biots would sit on a standard Prince. Bind the forward end down with loose wraps to fill the step behind the weight.
Back the thread off a couple of turns, catch the gold wire in at a 45-degree angle, and pull it until its end sits just behind the weight so it too fills the gap and leaves no step.
Bind two strands of peacock herl in all the way back to the tail. Leave the thread mid-shank, wrap the herl forward, and stop about one bead width behind the bead to leave room for the wing and hackle. Lock and snip.
Counter-wrap the gold wire forward in three or four open turns. Leave the wire standing on top, take a wrap around it, reverse the thread direction for a couple of wraps, then reverse again to lock it, and helicopter the wire off. Trim the tail if it runs long.
Bind in a strand of white Antron for the wing, leaving it long. Take two or three tight wraps, keeping clear of the bead, snip the front end, then pull the rear end tight and cut it at about a body length; it springs back a touch shorter.
Bind in a brown hackle and take two turns as a collar, just enough to suggest legs. Lock and trim.
Take a few wraps to fill the gap between hackle and bead, whip finish with four or five turns, and snip. Pull the hackle back, put a small drop of head cement on the bead, and let it run down over the thread.
