Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly / terrestrial hook, 10-14
  • Thread Olive 6/0

Materials

  • Body Chartreuse-green material (2mm closed-cell foam strip)
  • Underbody Green shell lip (ice dub or chenille)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (1 hackle, palmered)
  • Indicator Orange permanent marker (small foam tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend and bind down a green foam strip by one end.
  2. Dub or wrap a slim green underbody forward to just behind the eye.
  3. Tie in a grizzly hackle at the front and leave it hanging.
  4. Pull the foam forward over the top in segments, binding it with thread at 4-5 points to make body segments.
  5. Palmer the hackle back through the segments in open turns and tie it off at the rear, then bring thread forward.
  6. Add a small orange foam tuft at the eye as a sighter, whip finish, and cement.
