Classic Recipe

  • Hook Short-shank egg/scud hook, 8-12
  • Thread Fluorescent orange / to match yarn Flymaster Plus (140 denier)

Materials

  • Egg McFly Foam / egg yarn, fluorescent (fl. orange/chartreuse) (1 clump)
  • Optional dot Contrasting yarn, red or cerise (few fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and lay a base from the eye to above the point.
  2. Cut a clump of fluorescent McFly Foam about 1.5 in long, lay it on top of the hook, and take a few loose midpoint wraps.
  3. Tighten with firm stacked wraps to flare the yarn into a ball; add a few contrasting strands on top for a hot dot if desired.
  4. Stand the yarn up and take four or five tight wraps around its base to gather it into a round egg.
  5. Whip finish just ahead of the yarn, trim into a dome no more than half the gap tall, and roll it round.
