Egg · Trout · Steelhead · Beginner · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook Short-shank egg/scud hook, 10-14
- Thread Pale pink / to match yarn Flymaster Plus (140 denier)
Materials
- Egg McFly Foam / egg yarn, baby pink (pale) (1 small clump)
- Optional dot Contrasting yarn, red (few fibers)
How to tie it
- Start thread and lay a base from the eye to above the point.
- Cut a small clump of pale baby-pink McFly Foam about 1.25 in long, lay it on top of the hook, and take a few loose wraps at its midpoint.
- Tighten with firm stacked wraps to flare the yarn into a ball; add a few red strands on top first for a dot if desired.
- Stand the yarn up and take four or five tight wraps around its base to gather it into a round egg.
- Whip finish just ahead of the yarn, then trim the egg into a small dome (no more than half the gap) and roll it round between your fingers.
