EZ Egg Apricot

Egg · Trout · Steelhead · Beginner · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Short-shank egg/scud hook (TMC 2457 / Gamakatsu C14S), 8-12
  • Thread Apricot / to match yarn Flymaster Plus (140 denier)

Materials

  • Egg McFly Foam / egg yarn, apricot (1 clump)
  • Optional dot Contrasting egg yarn, red or orange (few fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and lay a base from the eye back to above the hook point.
  2. Cut a clump of apricot McFly Foam about 1.5 in long, lay it parallel on top of the hook, and take a few loose wraps at its midpoint over the point.
  3. Tighten with firm wraps stacked on top of one another to flare the yarn up into a ball; if adding a contrasting dot, lay a few strands of red/orange yarn on top before cinching.
  4. Stand the yarn up and take four or five tight horizontal wraps around its base like a parachute post to gather it into a round egg.
  5. Advance the thread just ahead of the yarn and whip finish. Pull the yarn up and trim it into a dome no more than half the hook gap tall, then roll it between your fingers to round it off.
