Materials
Eyes & Tubes barbell eyes Red dumbbell eyes (12 mm, 5.4 mm wide)

Deer hair Olive deer hair (Two clumps, collar and head)
Hard monofilament Clear weed guard (20 lb, for the stinger loop)
Head cement Clear head cement (Under the eyes and on the head)
How to tie it
Thread the eyes onto the 1/0 stainless hook first, then mount it in the vise. Start hot orange 6/0 behind the eye and lay a base about half an inch back. That is where the eyes will sit.
Brush a little head cement onto that base, slide the eyes into place leaving at least an eighth of an inch clear behind the hook eye, and lock them down with criss-cross wraps. Add wraps over the top of each eye and across, which pulls them down so the weight sits below the shank and the fly rides hook point up.
Run the thread back down the shank with a solid base of wraps to the bend, finishing with a small thread bump right at the bend. Half hitch.
Tie in the pre-rigged stinger: pass the 20 lb hard mono through the eye of the size 6 curved hook, lay it along the shank so the stinger sits three-quarters of an inch to an inch behind the tying hook, and take a couple of wraps. Check the stinger is riding point up, then trim the mono tag.
Bind the mono down the length of the shank with the thread running forward, building a base layer for the rest of the fly at the same time. Half hitch.
Add bright green angel hair in small pinches distributed around the shank (a little on top, a little underneath) and secure it. Do not overdo it; this material is far brighter in the water than it looks at the bench. Run the thread up to just behind the eyes and trim the angel hair so it is not too long.
Cut a clump of olive bucktail, mixing light and dark so the wing has a darker back, and tie it in on top just at or slightly behind the eyes. Taper the front of the fly with thread ready for the deer hair.
Tie in a clump of olive deer hair as a collar behind the eyes: one wrap around it, position it, pull tight, then lift the hair back toward the stinger and take a few wraps at its base so it stands off and sweeps back.
Lay a second clump of deer hair between the eyes and the hook eye, wrap around it, tighten, lift the hair up and tie off in front of it. Keep all the deer hair on top, above the eyes. That helps the fly ride hook up.
Whip finish, turn the fly over and cement underneath to lock the eyes and thread in place, then trim the deer hair to shape the head. Last of all, clip the front tying hook off at the bend so only the stinger remains.
