How to tie it
Mount the Kamasan B940 and start the Nano Silk 12/0. Lay a base along the straight portion of the shank and bring the thread back to the middle.
Take a clump of White Faux Bucktail less than half the diameter of a pencil and measure it on top of the hook so the tail equals the straight portion of the shank. Trim the butts on an angle where they meet the thread and bind the tail with edge-to-edge wraps along the straight portion. Build up thread and add thin head cement.
With the thread at the base of the tail, bind in a pencil-thick clump of Orange Deer Hair. Pull the fibres back, secure the thread in front of them, spiral the thread out of the way, and trim the hair on a taper sloping toward the tail with straight and curved scissors.
Trim four strands of rubber legs so the red tips sit even with the end of the tail and bind two on each side of the hook.
Fold two Cree Saddle Hackles and bind them in by their tips from underneath the hook. Trim the excess, whip finish, and add head cement.
For the wing, take another clump of Faux Bucktail about half a pencil in diameter and bind it on top behind the eye, wrapping edge-to-edge back toward the tail. Trim the butts on a taper and secure. The wing should be about one and a half hook gaps long. Bring the thread back toward the eye and split the wing into two equal halves with figure-8 wraps, then wraps around the base of each half.
Wind a temporary turn of wire around the tail and around the wing to hold them together while the deer hair body is trimmed.
Cut the foam casing to shape with a foam cutter and scissors, trim its tie-in point, and bind it in by the tip at the base of the orange butt. Build up thread.
Spin Natural and Dyed Yellow Deer Hair along the thread-covered shank from the base of the foam to just before the eye, packing each clump with a brassie so the wing is not damaged. Whip finish, trim the thread, and add head cement. Trim the body to a cigar shape with straight and curved scissors, then unwind the wire from the tail and wing.
Start the 18/0 thread behind the wing. Wrap the two folded Cree hackles one at a time over the deer hair body, evenly spaced and on a slight angle, and secure them by the stems behind the wing. Trim the excess.
Fold a third Cree hackle, trim a tie-in point at its tip, bind it in from underneath, and wrap it edge-to-edge as a collar. Secure by the stem, trim, and whip finish.
Fold the foam casing firmly over the hackled body and secure it. Even the tips of a clump of Moose Mane and bind it in from underneath, opposite the foam, with the tips about half the body length. Trim the butts evenly under the wing, whip finish, and add head cement.
