Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook, 16
  • Thread Fluorescent fire orange 140 denier (hot spot) / 70 denier (body)

Materials

  • Tungsten bead To match bead (3 mm)
  • Crystal Flash (tail) Pearl flashabou (1 strand)
  • Semperfli Micro Glint (body) Old gold (1 length)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (light coat)
  • Dubbing (soft-hackle collar) Natural buggy (sparse pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the 3 mm bead onto a size 16 jig hook and start the thread.
  2. Tie in a single short strand of Crystal Flash as a tag at the bend.
  3. Tie in the Micro Glint, build a slight thread taper, then wrap the Micro Glint forward to the bead and tie off.
  4. Coat the body with a light layer of UV resin and cure.
  5. For the hot spot, tie in about four strands of fluorescent fire orange 140 thread, take the thread back a couple of turns, then pull the strands over to form the hot spot and trim.
  6. Make a sparse dubbing loop, twist it, and wrap a thin soft-hackle collar; pick out the fibers.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
