Reference Recipe

  • Hook Waddington shank with looped trailer hook, trailing hook size 2 on a 25-35mm shank
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Tail/body Black ostrich herl (rabbit strip, full length)
  • Flash Copper flashabou (few strands Flashabou)
  • Pectoral fins White uni stretch (stiff bucktail, splayed each side)
  • Collar Purple arctic fox (schlappen or guinea)
  • Head Black ostrich herl (ice dub)

How to tie it

  1. Rig the trailer hook on a wire loop through the shank and start thread at the rear.
  2. Tie in a full-length rabbit strip as the trailing tail so it swims and kicks.
  3. Add a few strands of copper flash flanking the strip.
  4. Bind a stiff bucktail clump splayed out on each side as pectoral fins; these throw a vortex that makes the strip dance.
  5. Wind a schlappen and guinea collar to frame the head.
  6. Dub a bulky ice-dub head, whip finish, and cement.
