Dry Fly · Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly hook, 12-16
  • Thread Tan 8/0

Materials

  • Body Olive ostrich herl (fine dry-fly dubbing)
  • Underwing Amber vinyl rib medium (few strands Antron)
  • Wing Natural case (elk or deer hair)
  • Hackle Ginger hackle (1 dry-fly hackle)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the 75% point and wrap a thin base back to the bend.
  2. Dub a slim tapered body forward to the 65% mark using half the dubbing you think.
  3. Tie in a sparse Antron underwing over the body, extending to the hook bend.
  4. Stack a clump of elk hair and bind it as a tent wing reaching just past the bend.
  5. Trim the elk butts to a small head and tie in a ginger hackle at the wing base.
  6. Palmer the hackle two or three turns through the front for flotation and tie off.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and add a drop of head cement to the wraps.
