Reference Recipe

  • Hook 60-degree jig nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Red 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Silver bead (slotted tungsten, 3.3mm)
  • Tail Pardo Coq de Leon (5-6 fibers)
  • Body Light rainbow (sow-scud dubbing)
  • Rib Silver metal tape (fine wire)
  • Thorax Dark rainbow (sow-scud dubbing)
  • Hot spot Red buzzer wrap (tying thread)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the silver slotted bead against the eye and start red thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a sparse Coq de Leon tail one shank length long and bind a silver wire rib at the bend.
  3. Dub a slim tapered body of light rainbow sow-scud up to the 65% mark.
  4. Rib forward with 5 open turns of silver wire and helicopter off the tag.
  5. Dub a buggier thorax of dark rainbow sow-scud up toward the bead.
  6. Leave a band of bare red thread showing behind the bead as the hot spot, then whip finish.
