Reference Recipe
- Hook 60-degree jig or curved scud hook, 12-16
- Thread Tan 8/0
Materials
- Bead Copper bead (slotted tungsten, 3.0mm)
- Body Olive-tan material (scud/sow-bug dubbing)
- Shellback Clear scud back thin skin (Scud Back or stretch flash)
- Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
How to tie it
- Seat the slotted bead and start thread, wrapping back to the bend.
- Tie in the clear shellback strip and a length of copper wire at the tail.
- Dub a plump, slightly overfull body forward to just behind the bead.
- Pull the shellback strip tight over the top and bind it behind the bead.
- Spiral the wire rib forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns to segment the back and tie off.
- Pick out dubbing on the underside for legs, then whip finish behind the bead.
