Reference Recipe

  • Hook 60-degree jig nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (slotted tungsten, 3.0-3.5mm)
  • Tail Coq de Leon (5-6 fibers)
  • Body Pheasant tail (4-5 fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Collar Amber vinyl rib medium (hare's ear or UV dub, pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the slotted bead to the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a sparse Coq de Leon tail one shank length long.
  3. Wind pheasant tail fibers forward to the 65% mark for a slim body.
  4. Counter-wrap the copper rib in 5 open turns and snip the tag.
  5. Dub a short spiky collar of hare's ear behind the bead.
  6. Pick out a few fibers for legs, then whip finish behind the bead.
