How to tie it
Mount the size 12 jig hook with the 4.0mm silver slotted bead, run about a dozen wraps of 0.010 lead on the shank, helicopter off the tag and jam the wraps up into the bead. Start red 8/0 behind the lead, wrap in front of it and then back over it so nothing can slide.
At the point where the shank starts to bend, tie in about a dozen white marabou fibers. Break the tips with your fingernails first rather than cutting them. The ragged, misaligned ends look far more alive than a stacked tail.
Tie white Straggle String in at the same point, secure it all the way up to the bead, then bring the thread back to the tie-in point so everything wraps forward over a smooth base.
Flatten the thread by spinning the bobbin counterclockwise, split it with a bodkin and insert a small clump of red Diamond Dub. Spread it evenly, cord the thread back up clockwise and brush out any trapped fibers before wrapping. This red core is what shows between the straggle wraps.
Give the straggle string a twist between your fingers so it cords with the dubbing, then wrap both forward with touching wraps to just behind the bead, brushing fibers back as you go. Tie off, trim, and build a small thread platform for the legs.
Tie in a single strand of grizzly flutter legs with two cross wraps in each direction, then flip the fly so the legs sit on what will be the top. Remember, on a jig hook the point rides up. Trim them just past the tail.
Cut a small clump of white rabbit into a second split thread loop, spread the fibers, cord it up and wrap touching turns to the head, pulling fibers back each turn. Take a couple of securing wraps, back the twist off slightly so the thread doesn't snap, whip finish twice and seal with Solarez Bone Dry.
