Euro Hare's Ear-Tungsten

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 60-degree jig nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Tan 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (slotted tungsten, 3.0-3.5mm)
  • Tail Natural case (hare's mask guard hairs)
  • Body Natural hare (hare's ear dubbing)
  • Rib Gold middle (fine wire or oval tinsel)
  • Thorax Dark hare (coarse hare's mask dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted bead against the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a short tuft of hare's guard hairs, about half a shank long.
  3. Dub a slim tapered body of hare's ear up to the 60% mark using half the dubbing you think.
  4. Rib forward with 4-5 open turns of gold wire and tie off.
  5. Dub a fatter, spiky thorax of coarse mask dubbing up to the bead.
  6. Pick out the thorax with a bodkin to free the buggy guard hairs for legs.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead.
