Reference Recipe

  • Hook 60-degree jig nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (slotted tungsten, 3.0-3.5mm)
  • Tail Natural case (6-8 pheasant tail fibers)
  • Body Natural case (4-5 pheasant tail fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)

  • Collar Fluoro orange mono (UV ice dub, pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted bead against the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a pheasant tail tail one shank length long, keeping the tips even.
  3. Wind the pheasant fibers forward to the 65% mark for a slim tapered body.
  4. Rib forward with 4-5 open counter-wraps of copper wire and snip the tag.
  5. Twist and wrap a short peacock herl thorax, stopping one bead-width behind the bead.
  6. Dub a bright fluoro-orange hot collar right behind the bead as the trigger.
  7. Whip finish under the bead and add a drop of head cement.
