Materials

  • Bead Copper bead (slotted tungsten, 3.0-3.5mm)
  • Tail Natural case (6-8 pheasant tail fibers)
  • Body Natural case (4-5 pheasant tail fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Thorax Peacock ice dub (2-3 peacock herls)
  • Collar Natural dun wing bud (1 CDC feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the slotted bead onto the hook, seat it against the eye, and start thread behind it.
  2. Bind a tail of pheasant tail fibers one shank length long, then leave the butts to run forward.
  3. Wrap the pheasant tail fibers forward in touching turns to the 65% mark to build a slim segmented body.
  4. Counter-wrap the copper rib forward in 4-5 open turns and tie off; this locks the fragile herl.
  5. Twist the peacock herl into a rope and wind a short buggy thorax up to the bead.
  6. Sweep a CDC feather into a doubled clump and take two turns as a soft collar behind the bead.
  7. Stroke the fibers back, build a small thread head, and whip finish.
