Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless jig or curved caddis hook, #12-#16
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper or gold slotted tungsten bead (1 slotted tungsten)
  • Hotspot Fluorescent chartreuse/orange material (Thread band at the rear)
  • Body Olive/green material (Dubbing or thread)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine wire, 4-5 turns)
  • Thorax/Collar Dark brown/black material (Ice or hare's ear dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted bead on the hook, mount it, and start thread at the bend.
  2. Wrap a short fluorescent hotspot band at the very rear to suggest the caddis larva's segmented tag.
  3. Bind in the copper wire, then dub or wrap a slim olive-green body forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Counter-wrap the wire in 4-5 open turns and tie off for a segmented larval look.
  5. Dub a dark, slightly picked-out thorax collar up toward the bead to suggest the head and legs.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and brush out a few thorax fibers.
  7. Tight-line it deep along the bottom of riffles and runs where cased and free-living caddis drift; keep the drift dragless so it tumbles naturally.
