Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless jig nymph hook, #14-#18
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Black or copper slotted tungsten bead (1 slotted tungsten)
  • Tail Coq de Leon (Small bunch of fibers)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (Tying thread or fine tinsel)
  • Rib Silver/pearl material (Fine wire or tinsel, 4-5 turns)
  • Thorax Black UV material (Ice/UV dubbing)
  • Hotspot Fluorescent orange egg sac (Thread collar behind the bead (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted bead on the jig hook, mount it, and start thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a short, sparse Coq de Leon tail at the bend, about half a shank long.
  3. Bind in the rib, then wrap a smooth, slim black body forward to the 70% mark.
  4. Counter-wrap the rib forward in 4-5 open turns and tie off for segmentation.
  5. Dub a small black UV thorax up toward the bead.
  6. If you want a trigger, build a short fluorescent orange thread hotspot collar right behind the bead, then whip finish.
