Epoxy Mysis Shrimp

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Straight-eye scud/midge hook, #16-#20
  • Thread White 8/0

Materials

  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (Tiny mono/burnt eyes or a dot of thread)
  • Body Clear/pearl white material (Antron or midge flash)
  • Feelers White uni stretch (Few Antron fibers at the rear)
  • Coating Clear head cement (Epoxy or UV resin over the body)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a sparse tuft of white Antron feelers pointing off the back, no longer than a hook gap.
  3. Bind in a strand of pearl or clear body material at the bend.
  4. Wrap the body material forward in smooth touching turns to the 80% mark, building a slim translucent shrimp body, and tie off.
  5. Add two tiny black eyes or a small black dot at the head to suggest the mysis' eyes, then whip finish.
  6. Coat the whole body with a thin layer of epoxy or UV resin and cure to give it the clear, glassy look of a real mysis.
