Egg · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Straight-eye scud/midge hook, #16-#20
  • Thread White 8/0

Materials

  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (Tiny burnt mono or thread dots)
  • Tail/Feelers White uni stretch (Sparse Antron wisp)
  • Body Clear with pearl core (V-rib or pearl flash over white thread)
  • Coating Clear head cement (Epoxy or UV resin)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a wisp of white Antron for the tail feelers, kept short.
  3. Lay a smooth white thread underbody forward to the 80% mark to give the fly its pale base color.
  4. Bind in clear V-rib or pearl material at the bend and wrap it forward in touching turns over the thread base, then tie off.
  5. Set two tiny black eyes at the head, then whip finish.
  6. Coat the body with a thin, even layer of epoxy or UV resin and cure for a glassy, lifelike mysis shell.
