Classic Recipe

  • Hook Curved pupa, 10-14
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Body Black thread (slim to bend)
  • Cheeks Orange goose biot slips (each side)
  • Wing buds Orange painted or biot (sides)
  • Coat Epoxy/UV resin (full gloss)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved pupa hook and run black thread from the eye down around the bend to set the body length.
  2. Wrap a slim, smooth black thread body up the shank, keeping it thin and tapered.
  3. Tie in a short orange goose biot slip on each side at the head as breathers/cheeks.
  4. Add orange biot or painted wing buds at the sides of the thorax.
  5. Whip finish first, then coat the entire body and thorax with a full gloss of epoxy or UV resin, rotating until cured for a glassy finish.
