Epoxy Brass

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/nymph hook, #14-#18
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (1 tungsten (optional))
  • Body Brass/copper material (Fine brass wire, wrapped full)
  • Thorax Peacock ice dub (1-2 herls or dark dubbing)
  • Coating Clear head cement (UV resin over the body)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold bead to the eye (or skip it for an unweighted version), mount the hook, and start thread at the bend.
  2. Bind the end of the brass wire at the bend, then run the thread forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Wrap the brass wire in tight, touching turns forward to the thread, building a slim, segmented metallic body, and tie it off.
  4. Twist a peacock herl into a short thorax against the bead.
  5. Whip finish behind the bead.
  6. Coat the wire body with a thin layer of UV resin and cure it to seal the abrasion-proof shell.
