Nymph · Emerger · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook wet-fly / emerger hook, 16-20
  • Thread olive or brown 8/0 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Tail (optional) Wood-duck or brown hackle fibers (few fibers)
  • Rib Fine gold wire (optional) (6 in)
  • Body Olive dubbing or olive pheasant tail (pinch)
  • Thorax Olive-brown dubbing (pinch)
  • Hackle Brown partridge or dun hen (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Optionally tie in a few wood-duck fibers as a short tail at the bend.
  2. Tie in a fine wire rib and dub a slim olive body two-thirds up the shank (or wrap olive PT).
  3. Counter-rib with the wire in 4-5 turns for durability, then tie off.
  4. Dub a small olive-brown thorax at the front.
  5. Tie in a soft partridge or hen hackle and take 2-3 turns as a collar, then sweep the fibers back so they pulse and imitate emerging legs/wings.
  6. Build a small head and whip finish.
