How to tie it
Slide a gunmetal brass bead onto a size 10 wide-gape nymph hook and start black thread behind it.
Break off three tips of black ostrich herl and tie them in at the rear as a tail, then bring the thread back to the base of the tail.
Tie in the wire dubbing brush at the tail, if you make your own, fold wire into a loop, pinch micro chenille, EP fibers and fine Crystal Flash between the legs and spin it slowly with a drill on the lowest speed.
Bring the thread forward so about 20-25% of the shank behind the bead is covered, then wrap the wire brush forward in touching turns to that point. Crank down hard when you tie it off. It is wire underneath. Trim with heavy scissors.
The body will look wild at this stage. Trim it to shape: rotate the fly and cut the bottom flat, then trim the flanks in tight so the abdomen takes a slim nymph profile and the wire underneath shows as a rib.
Tie in a small thinned clump of root beer crinkle mirror flash at the front of the abdomen for the wing case, leaving it pointing rearward.
Dub Bloody Mary Ice Dub onto the thread and build a thorax behind the bead.
Pull the mirror flash forward over the thorax, tie it down behind the bead, trim and whip finish.
Mix a very small amount of five-minute epoxy and place one tiny dab on the wing case, then let it cure in a rotor so it sets as a smooth bubble.
