Elden's CDC PMD Emerger

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger/scud hook (TMC 2487 or 100), 16-20
  • Thread Pale yellow / cream 14/0

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Amber/brown Zelon or Antron (few fibers)
  • Abdomen Pale yellow-olive (PMD) Superfine dubbing (pinch)
  • Thorax PMD/sulphur Superfine dubbing (pinch)
  • Wing/emerging wing Natural dun or light CDC (1-2 feathers)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and tie in a sparse amber Zelon trailing shuck at the bend, about half a shank long.
  2. Dub a slim, tapered pale yellow-olive abdomen forward over the rear two-thirds around the curve.
  3. Tie in one or two light dun CDC feathers by the tips, take a couple of turns, then fold the fibers forward and bind them as a low emerging wing over the thorax.
  4. Dub a small PMD-colored thorax behind the eye to fill in and set the wing.
  5. Whip finish and add a tiny drop of cement; keep it sparse to sit low in the film.
  6. Trim the CDC to about a shank length.
