Reference Recipe

  • Hook Egg/scud (curved) hook or short-shank wide-gape, #8-#16
  • Thread Red or clear mono 6/0

Materials

  • Body Egg yarn/McFly Foam, orange or peach (1-2 clumps)
  • Hotspot (optional) Red or chartreuse egg yarn (Tiny tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the egg hook and start thread at the midpoint of the shank.
  2. Lay a clump of egg yarn across the top of the hook and secure it with several tight wraps so it flares up and down.
  3. Add a second clump if needed to build a round profile, binding at the same point.
  4. For a hotspot, add a tiny tuft of contrasting egg yarn to one side and bind it in.
  5. Gather all the yarn upright, whip finish at the midpoint, and clip the thread.
  6. Trim the bunched yarn into a tight round egg shape with sharp scissors.
