Materials

Thorax Hare’s Ear dubbing, natural
How to tie it
Start the olive thread leaving a hook-eye length of space behind the eye and wrap back to about the hook point.
Tie in a length of Crinkled Zelon, green highlander, and wrap over the butt ends to form the underbody. Snip the trailing Zelon close to leave a short egg sac. (Omit it to tie a male.)
Dub a thin noodle of Australian possum, natural gray, and wrap the abdomen forward to end about two-thirds of the way up the shank; the underbody is already built, so keep the noodle thin.
Snip a small amount of white Straight Zelon from the hank and tie it in as an underwing.
Snip a small clump of Snowshoe rabbit foot, natural, from the bottom of the foot and strip out any overly long guard hairs. Measure it to extend just beyond the underwing and egg sac, pinch-wrap it on top, and take a few more wraps to bind it down.
Lift the fuzzy butts to vertical and snip them off at a shallow angle, then wrap over the butts to make a smooth foundation.
Coat a short stretch of thread with sticky dubbing wax. Pull a modest clump of Hare's Ear dubbing, natural, apart repeatedly to align the fibers, and touch-dub small sheets of it onto the waxed thread.
Starting at the wing, wrap forward to build an extremely bushy thorax.
Pull the fibers rearward to expose the eye, take a few wraps to hold them back, whip finish with 4-5 turns and snip the thread.
