Reference Recipe

  • Hook Scud/curved hook, #10-#16
  • Thread Orange or red 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead (optional) Gold tungsten bead (1)
  • Body Olive or cream Larva Lace / dubbing (As needed)
  • Rib Fine copper wire (1 strand)
  • Egg head Orange or peach egg yarn (Small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Optionally slide a bead on, mount the scud hook, and start thread; run it to the bend.
  2. Tie in the copper rib, then dub or wrap a slim caddis-larva body forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Counter-wrap the rib in 5-6 evenly spaced turns to segment the larva, then snip.
  4. Tie in a small tuft of egg yarn behind the bead or eye as the egg head.
  5. Bunch the egg yarn upright and whip finish.
  6. Trim the egg yarn into a tight round egg over the larva body.
