Streamer · Trout · Steelhead · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Streamer/jig hook, barbless, #2-#6
- Thread Olive or tan 6/0 or 140 denier
Materials
- Head Sculpin helmet or lead dumbbell, olive/natural (1)
- Tail Olive/tan rabbit zonker strip (1 strip)
- Flash Copper/pearl Flashabou (Few strands)
- Body Olive rabbit dubbing or palmered zonker (As needed)
- Collar Olive schlappen or mallard flank (1 feather)
- Hotspot/Egg Hot orange ice dub / egg yarn (Pinch)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and lash the sculpin helmet or dumbbell near the eye so the fly rides hook-point up; start thread behind it.
- Tie in the rabbit zonker at the bend so the fur tail extends about one shank length past the hook.
- Add a few strands of copper flash along each side of the tail.
- Dub a shaggy rabbit body or palmer the zonker forward to just behind the head.
- Wrap a schlappen or mallard collar and sweep the fibers back as pectoral fins and gills.
- Build a bright orange egg-hotspot collar right behind the head as the trigger, then slide the helmet into place and whip finish.
- Brush out the body so it breathes in the current.
