Egan's Warrior Perdigon

Nymph · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Hanak H400BL barbless jig hook, 16 (14-18)
  • Thread Red 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Silver-nickel slotted tungsten bead, 3.2mm (1)
  • Tail Coq de Leon fibers, pardo (5-6 fibers)
  • Body Pearl tinsel (large) over red thread (wrapped body)
  • Coating UV clear resin (thin) (over body)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the silver-nickel slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook, slot forward, and start red thread behind it.
  2. Tie in 5-6 Coq de Leon fibers for a tail about one shank length long and bind the butts forward.
  3. Build a smooth red thread underbody the full length of the shank, the red glowing through the flash is the Rainbow Warrior signature.
  4. Tie in the pearl tinsel at the tail and wrap it forward in touching turns to just behind the bead, so the red shows through, and tie off.
  5. Whip finish and coat the entire body with a thin layer of UV resin, then cure. The dense resin shell sinks the fly fast to the strike zone.
