Classic Recipe

  • Hook Hanak H400BL barbless jig hook, 16 (14-18)
  • Thread Light Olive 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Silver slotted tungsten bead, 3.0mm (1)
  • Tail Coq de Leon fibers, pardo (5-6 fibers)
  • Body Tying thread (light olive) coated with resin (as needed)
  • Rib March brown or olive tying wire, 0.2mm (5-6 turns)
  • Thorax Ice Dub, peacock black (small pinch)
  • Coating UV clear resin (thin) (over body)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the silver slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook, slot forward, and start light olive thread behind it.
  2. Tie in 5-6 Coq de Leon fibers for a tail about one shank length long and bind the butts forward for a smooth base.
  3. Tie in the March-brown wire at the tail. Build a slim, tapered thread body forward to the thorax.
  4. Counter-wrap the wire forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns to segment and armor the body, then helicopter it off.
  5. Dub a small peacock-black thorax right behind the bead as a dark hot spot.
  6. Whip finish, then coat the whole abdomen in a thin layer of UV resin and cure. The hard shell is what makes it sink fast and stay bulletproof.
