Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard nymph or jig hook, barbless, #14-#20
  • Thread Red 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Silver tungsten bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Tail Coq de Leon, pardo (Small pinch)
  • Body Pearl mylar tinsel (1 strand)
  • Flashback/Wing case Pearl tinsel or Flashabou (1 strand)
  • Thorax Rainbow sow-scud dubbing (Pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the silver bead to the eye, mount the hook, and start red thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a short coq de Leon tail about one shank-third long at the bend.
  3. Bind in a strand of pearl tinsel for the flashback, then a length of pearl mylar for the body.
  4. Wrap the mylar forward in touching turns to build a smooth flashy body up to the thorax area.
  5. Dub a small rainbow sow-scud thorax behind the bead.
  6. Pull the pearl flashback over the thorax, pin it behind the bead, letting a strip of red thread show as the hotspot, and whip finish.
