  • Hook Jig streamer hook (60-degree), barbless, #8-#12
  • Thread Olive 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Black slotted tungsten (1, sized to hook)
  • Weight Lead-free wire, .020 (8-10 turns)
  • Tail/Body Olive squirrel zonker strip (1 strip)
  • Belly Ripple ice dub, olive (Pinch)
  • Collar Olive hen back / CDL hen saddle (1 feather)
  • Head Dark olive-brown simi seal dubbing (Dubbing loop)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the black bead to the eye, mount the jig hook, and wrap 8-10 turns of lead into the back of the bead; start thread.
  2. Tie in the squirrel zonker at the bend so the fur tail extends about one shank length past the hook.
  3. Palmer or dub a pinch of ripple ice dub as a sparse belly along the underside.
  4. Wrap the squirrel zonker forward as a body to just behind the bead and tie off.
  5. Tie in the hen feather by the tip and take two turns as a swept-back collar of legs.
  6. Spin the dark Simi Seal in a dubbing loop and wrap a shaggy head behind the bead, then whip finish.
  7. Pick out the head and belly fibers so the fly breathes and jigs enticingly.
