Egan's Peacock Corn Fed Caddis

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 3 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, #12-#16
  • Thread Black or brown 8/0

Materials

  • Shuck Tan Antron yarn (Sparse tuft)
  • Body Peacock ice dub / peacock herl (Thin noodle)
  • Underwing Natural dun CDC (2-3 tips)
  • Overwing Grey/dun poly yarn (Small clump)
  • Hackle Dun CDC fibers (Collar)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the dry hook and run thread to the bend; tie in a sparse tan Antron shuck extending half a shank past the bend.
  2. Dub or wrap a slim peacock body forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Stack a heavy clump of CDC tips flat over the back as a tent wing, reaching the bend.
  4. Add a small poly-yarn overwing on top of the CDC for extra flotation and bind both at the 70% mark.
  5. Spin the CDC butt fibers into a collar of soft hackle around the front, then trim the bottom flat.
  6. Build a small head and whip finish; dress only with powder or gel floatant made for CDC.
