Egan's Corn Fed Sally 2 0

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 3 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, #14-#16
  • Thread Yellow 8/0

Materials

  • Egg sac/butt Red superfine dubbing (Tiny pinch)
  • Body Pale yellow superfine dubbing (Thin noodle)
  • Wing Natural grey CDC feathers (2-3 tips)
  • Hackle Natural grey CDC fibers (From wing butts)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the dry hook and run thread to the bend; touch-dub a tiny red butt as the egg sac.
  2. Dub a slim pale-yellow body forward to the 70% mark, keeping it sparse.
  3. Stack two or three CDC tips flat over the back as a low wing, tips reaching the bend, and bind at the 70% mark.
  4. Sweep the CDC butt fibers around the hook and take a turn or two so they splay as a soft hackle collar.
  5. Trim the collar fibers on the bottom flat so the fly rides low, then build a small head and whip finish.
