Materials

  • Tails Black/dark brown goose biots (2, split)
  • Abdomen Black-brown dubbing (dark hare's ear) (Thin noodle)
  • Rib Fine copper wire (1 strand)
  • Wing case Dark turkey/pheasant tail fibers (Small bunch)
  • Thorax Black-brown dubbing, coarse (Pinch)
  • Legs Brown partridge or dark hen (1 feather)
  • Antennae Black/dark brown goose biots (2)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook and start thread; tie in two dark biots at the bend, splayed into a wide V one-third shank long.
  2. Bind in the copper rib and dub a slim, tapered abdomen forward to the 60% mark, keeping it thin.
  3. Counter-wrap the rib in 5-6 evenly spaced turns for segmentation and snip.
  4. Tie in the turkey wing-case fibers pointing back over the abdomen, then dub a fatter thorax.
  5. Fold the wing case forward over the thorax and pin it just behind the eye.
  6. Sweep a few partridge fibers along each side as legs, angled toward the bend.
  7. Bind two biots at the eye as forward-pointing antennae in a shallow V, then build a small head and whip finish.
